Melrose Arch is bringing the magic back to Christmas this festive season with dazzling Christmas light displays throughout the precinct, as well as plenty of fun for the whole family. Remember the days when we’d pile into the car and drive through the streets of the city, admiring the beautiful Christmas lights on display? Those days may be long gone, but Melrose Arch is reviving the tradition!
To kick off the celebrations, the lights will be turned on at a special ceremony on The Piazza on Friday, 02 November 2018 at 18:30. MC, Harry Sideropoulos will be joined by well-known musicians including the Princess of Africa, Yvonne Chaka Chaka and Loyiso Bala, who’ll entertain guests with their favourite hits and Christmas carols before Mike Vermaak, MD of Melrose Arch, and Hedley Lewis, CEO of the Smile Foundation, flick the switch. Also, a new song for the Smile Foundation will be launched on the evening.
From 02 November 2018 – 03 January 2019, the precinct will come to life with an exciting festive entertainment programme perfect for the whole family.
On 03 November 2018 at 18:30, the Grammy Award-winning Soweto Gospel Choir and Tshedi Mholo of Malaika will sing Christmas carols to get everyone into the festive spirit.
For all your festive shopping needs, come to the Christmas Market 15-18 November 2018 from 16:00 to 21:00 to find the perfect gift and indulge in delicious holiday food all in one place. And if you’re pressed for time, take your purchases to the gift-wrapping kiosk right next to the Concierge Desk in the lower level Galleria where, for a small donation to the Smile Foundation, you can get your gifts beautifully wrapped.
On 17 November 2018 at 18:30, popular duo Sian and Kevin, will perform on The Piazza, followed by the Alexandra Harmonious Choir, who will delight visitors with cheerful Christmas carols.
On 30 November 2018 at 18:30, Melrose Arch will come alive with the bold sounds of bagpipes when the well-known Jeppe Pipe Band wander through the precinct, playing favourites like Scotland the Brave, Amazing Grace and Little Drummer Boy.
Vino in Piazza is an Italian wine festival taking place on The Piazza from 30 November – 02 December 2018. Hosted by the Italian Consulate in partnership with the Italian Trade Agency and the Italian Chamber of Commerce, the wine expo offers visitors the opportunity to experience a variety of wines from Italy and meet the winemakers and importers while savouring delicious Italian food and wine pairings. Tickets cost R150 per person and are available from www.ticketpros.co.za.
Classical music lovers will be thrilled to hear that renowned conductor, Richard Cock and the Johannesburg Festival Orchestra, will be performing on The Piazza on 07 December 2018 at 18:30. Make sure you arrive early to get a good seat.
The cultural vibe continues on 08 December 2018 at 18:30 when dancers from Johannesburg Ballet will perform scenes from popular ballets.
And as if that wasn’t enough festive entertainment, The Piazza will host children’s activities from 09-16 December 2018, 09:00 – 16:00 daily. Kids will also be able to enjoy virtual reality gaming at Vortex in front of Woolworths in the middle-level Galleria or in the Vortex store in Whiteley Road (next to the Protea Fire & Ice Hotel). Budding Arianas and Justins can sing their hearts out at Young Rebel Recording Studio in the upper-level Galleria, taking part in karaoke and recording their songs to take home.
The end of the year is a busy time for everyone and to make life and the festive rush a little easier, Melrose Arch is extending their trading hours, which will help you get all your shopping done in time. From 19 November – 23 December 2018, all stores will stay open from 09:00 to 19:00, Monday to Sunday and public holidays.
