Summer School Holiday Programmes 2019

Bright Young Chefs Holiday Club

Dates: 05 – 20 December 2019

First up on our school holiday programme list is something tasty. Do your children enjoy cooking? Bright Young Chefs will be hosting a Christmas holiday club over the summer school holidays. The cost is R150 per workshop (three hours long) per child, which includes a chef’s hat, use of all the equipment and ingredients, refreshments, aprons (for use only) and takeaway containers. They’ll have lots of fun cooking and baking delicious Christmas goodies, such as Santa Fondant Chocolate Cake, Santa and Friends Cupcakes, Christmas Tree Brownies, Santa’s favorite Choc Chip Cookies, a Christmas Savoury Platter and Grinch Cookies. The Imperial Ice Stars’ Peter Pan On Ice

Date: Friday, 06 December 2019 – Saturday, 11 January 2020.

Okay, this isn’t a school holiday programme, but it is certainly worth a mention as it’ll definitely entertain the kids during the festive season. The world’s premier theatrical ice skating company, The Imperial Ice Stars, returns to Joburg with a brand-new show, Peter Pan On Ice, this December. Head to the Teatro at Montecasino and fly off to Neverland with Peter Pan and his gang, in this classic tale of magic and make-believe, spectacularly staged on real ice. Tickets cost between R150 – R450 per person and are available at Computicket.

Santa’s World Of Wonder At Cradlestone Mall

Date: 05 December 2019 – 05 January 2020

Get into the festive spirit at Santa’s World of Wonder at Cradlestone Mall this December! There will be plenty of fun to keep the kids entertained while you finish off the rest of your Christmas gift shopping. Santa’s World of Wonder will bring the mall to life with an extravagant and exciting lineup of activities perfect for the entire family. These activities include fun at the Baubles Factory, baking workshops, Toy Town, Santa’s Post Office and Santa’s Village. Experience fun-filled memory-making moments this Christmas season! School Holiday Programme At The Johannesburg Zoo

Date: 09 – 13 December 2019

Join the Johannesburg Zoo for their December holiday programme, taking place between the 09 – 13 December 2019 from 09:00 – 13:00 daily. Here, kids aged between 7 – 13 can experience outdoor adventures with a range of fun activities, including arts and crafts, animal feeding and enrichment and lots of games. Every day at the Johannesburg Zoo is different! Just make sure you pack your little ones some lunch to take along on the day. Musical Theatre Holiday Club

Date: 9 – 13 and 17 – 21 December 2019 and 06 – 10 January 2020

The Musical Theatre Holiday Club, presented by the Johannesburg Academy for Theatre Arts, will be heading to Cresta Shopping Centre during the December school holidays! This holiday club runs during the week, ending with a showcase performance at the end of the workshop. It will develop your child’s coordination, musicality, expression, voice projection, improvisation and performance, while encouraging youngsters to become a triple-threat in the arts. But, most importantly, it’s fun! Cost is R250 per child per day, or R1 000 for all five days. The holiday club will take place from 08:00 – 13:30 daily. The Nat Geo Kids Weird But True! Exhibition At Sci-Bono

Date: 16 June 2019 – 14 January 2020

The Nat Geo Kids Weird But True! exhibition, brought to you by National Geographic, opened at the Sci-Bono Discovery Science Centre this past June and will run until January 2020. For the first time in Africa, this engaging and interactive exhibition will give young minds the opportunity to explore our amazing and very weird world. So, kids and adults are invited to celebrate everything Weird But True! through wild, entertaining, brain-bending, visually stunning photos, graphics, games and installations.

Wonders Of H2O School Holiday Programme At Sci-Bono Discovery Centre

Date: 07 December 2019 – 12 January 2020

Water is a unique compound, the oddity of its behaviour is quite different from any other liquid and makes it essential to life on earth. Sci-Bono Discovery Centre invite you to join in on an exploration and celebration of Wonders of Water Holiday Programme, targeting children aged from six years and above to experience water-based activities that showcase a wide variety of aspects of the behaviour of water. They’ll become water experts as they learn about interesting topics like properties and components, saving tips and related technologies, water uses including fun activities such as Hydropower, water cycle, H2O Today Exhibition, and much more. Casual Bum-Boarding At Ski Deck

Treat the kids to an afternoon of bum-boarding, slope-surfing and sliding down the 20m slope at the famous Ski Deck in Ferndale. No need to endure freezing conditions and travel to the other side of the world to enjoy a little skiing. The cost is R100 per child, for two hours of fun. They’ll also have access to the jungle gym and zip line. Bookings for this are only available during the week and by appointment.

Ranger Day at Lory Park Zoo

Date: 10 – 13 and 17 – 20 December 2019, and 31 January 2020

Ranger Day at Lory Park Zoo is an opportunity to teach children about animals and how to be a zoo ranger for the day. This school holiday programme allows the kids to spend the day cleaning enclosures, preparing food for the resident animals and get the chance to interact with the ambassador animals. Children will be supervised by the education officer or supervisor on duty at all times to ensure their safety. The cost of this holiday programme is R200 per day and includes a lunch, drink and chips. Make sure your child has extra water, sunscreen and old clothes that can get dirty, as well as extra snacks to nibble on throughout the day.

The Beach Festival At Silverstar 

Date: 05 December 2019 – 11 January 2020

Silverstar Casino is bringing a holiday paradise right to your doorstep once again! This time, you can look forward to the supersized version! For the last four years, The Square has been transformed into a sandy summer from 10:00 to 22:00 daily (Closed on Christmas day). No need to drive for hours for the family to enjoy the sun and sand. And the best part is that entry to Silverstar’s Beach Festival is only R35 for adults, R10 for children and R20 for pensioners! Look forward to an under 18 beach festival and a New Year’s bash that will kick start 2020 in style. There’ll be plenty of beach fun for the kids, sizzling food specials, crazy carnival rides and live entertainment. You certainly don’t want to miss out on all the fun!
