Level Four At 54 On Bath

Not only is Level Four in Rosebank an upmarket and snazzy restaurant to visit if you’re looking to impress, but it also offers a delectable afternoon tea served daily from 14:30 – 17:00. This lovely little ‘time-out’ offers you a choice of English tea sandwiches, freshly baked scones, moreish pastries and premium tea leaves. Take your pick from the Traditional Afternoon Tea (R260* per person) or the Royal Afternoon Tea (R300* per person) complete with a glass of kir royale.

KCC La Vie En Rose

If you happen to be in the area, make a stop at La Vie En Rose for a spot of tea and some delicious food. Choose between sitting indoors or outside in the lovely garden. And if it’s a little chilly, not a problem, they provide warm and toasty blankets for the tables. As for high tea, there are two set menus to choose from. There are far too many delicious goodies to mention, so click here if you want to suss it out for yourself. But the general details are as follows: cost for either menu is R260* per person; it’s all buffet style; each person indulges in 11 pieces each (four sweet & seven savoury OR six sweet and five savoury depending on which menu you selected).

The Piano Lounge At The Saxon Hotel

For a sip of sophistication and delicious delicacies, book a lovely morning tea (Monday to Saturday 09:30 to 11:30) or afternoon tea (Monday to Sunday 14:00 to 16:00) for yourself and/or your friends at The Piano Lounge at the Saxon. Treat yourself to sweet and savoury handcrafted delights from light and fluffy scones to an assortment of pastries and cakes and learn what the true meaning of high tea is. This is the perfect way to enjoy a well-deserved break or to hang out with the girls.

Cost is as follows: Sunday to Friday – R465* per person; Saturday morning – R465* per person; Saturday afternoon – R520* per person; all complete with the soothing sounds of their pianist.

The Patisserie

Pretty in pink and white stripes, quaint and cosy, The Patisserie in Illovo is the perfect place for a decadent high tea with your girlfriends. They have a wide variety of sweet and savoury snack options, as well as various hot drinks, juices and teas. An absolute MUST while you’re there are the macarons and red velvet cupcakes – they’re to die for, we kid you not! This is the best spot to be if you want to spoil yourself with indulgent cakes, iced treats, cupcakes and the deliciously light millefeuille. Yum!

Belle’s Patisserie 

This one is a given! Whether you’re looking to set up your own high tea at home or want to indulge in all things sweet and savoury in store, Belle’s Patisserie has everything you need. Their high tea menu options are completely customisable, offering everything from decadent pastries and savoury treats to dainty finger sandwiches and, of course, their freshly baked scones served with clotted cream. Manor House Bistro at Fairlawns Boutique Hotel

We love the sounds of this classic high tea at the Manor House Bistro at the Fairlawns Boutique Hotel. Not only do you get to enjoy a lovely classic high tea and savour ribbon sandwiches, traditional scones with Devonshire clotted cream and strawberry jam, and an assortment of pastries served with your choice of tea or coffee, but you can also indulge in champagne or sparkling wine served by the glass. It makes us feel so classy! And best of all, you can pick either the morning or the afternoon tea depending on your busy schedule. The classic high tea is R300* per person and booking is essential.

The Medeo Restaurant At The Palazzo 

When we say Montecasino, what comes to mind? Bird Gardens? The Piazza? The casino? All the food and exciting shows? Yes, Montecasino has everything you could ever possibly need to stay entertained, including a decadent high tea at the Palazzo Hotel! There’s nothing more delightful than relaxing a little and enjoying a selection of your favourite delectable sweet and savoury treats. The chef’s delicious daily bakes include a variety of cakes, assorted sandwiches, quiches and scones, all accompanied by freshly infused teas. The Palazzo’s high tea is served from 14:00 to 17:00, any day of the week, at R245* per person. No need for a special occasion to indulge in a little afternoon tea delight. Booking and pre-payment are essential.

The Silver Teaspoon Victorian Tea Room

Many special occasions call for a special high tea – baby showers, kitchen teas, birthdays, even just for lunch – and if you’re looking for a unique place to celebrate, then you need to check out the Silver Teaspoon in Northcliff. This country-style garden venue will take you back in time to the Victorian era with all its antiques, crockery and decor. You can enjoy a spot of tea in the garden in the sun or you can take a seat in the tea room. They have a lovely collection of sweet and savoury treats (think pancakes, tarts, quiche, meringue pie and cheesecake). Make sure you call and book in advance in case there is an event already arranged.

High Tea


Plan an indulgent afternoon out with the girls at Contessa in Rivonia. Here, you and your ladies will get to enjoy a pot of exotic tea accompanied by a glorious selection of sweet and savoury goodies from their high tea menu. Who wouldn’t love to spend the afternoon sipping on tea and tucking into mini-quiches, sandwiches and red velvet cupcakes? We know we would! This high tea costs R159 per person and includes an individual pot of exotic tea (two cups) or a speciality coffee if you prefer. Please note that three days notice is required and a R60 deposit per person is requested to secure your booking.

Whether you want a traditional afternoon tea or are planning something to mark some of life’s greatest moments (think stork parties and kitchen teas to birthdays and kids’ parties), the Tea Room offers you a delightful venue for just these occasions. Spoil yourself with delectable cupcakes, decadent cakes and sweet or savoury tartlets along with a relaxing cup of tea. And, if you just want to kick back, relax and delight your taste buds with a selection of confectionery and finger snacks, they serve their traditional English high tea too. Booking is essential.

Am.Biance at Marion on Nicol

For a classic high tea filled with indulgence, elegance and sophistication, Am.Biance at Marion on Nicol has it all. Delight your palate with divine sweet and savoury goodies such as smoked salmon sandwiches, strawberries and cream, and the ever-indulgent chocolate truffles that’ll leave you feeling blissful. The high tea is available on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays out on their stunning terrace. Booking is essential.
